It’s officially the winter season in the UK, the season for Christmas, New Year, and lots of meat delicacies. Eating meat during the winter season is preferred because meat keeps our body warm during the chilling temperatures. Pregnancy is the perfect time to consume meat dishes as you have two mouths to feed and one individual to grow.

We asked some pregnant women in Peterborough to tell us their favourite choice of meat and here are the answers as shown below.

Caroline Clark

“I’m a hardcore meat-lover and there isn’t a day when I don’t eat meat. I like eating all kinds of meat but my all-time favourites are always beef and lamb. I love making stews from lamb and beef. Beaf steaks are my absolute favourite”.

Annette Ferguson

“I love to eat meat because it makes me feel strong and healthy. Since I’m pregnant, I have increased my meat consumption to get my daily dose of vitamin B12 and protein for a healthy pregnancy. There was a time when I became a vegan but it was only for a year and then I realized how weak my body has become after ditching meat. So, yes, never going to that track ever again. Coming to my favourite choice of meat during pregnancy, it is difficult to choose one as I’ve many favourites. I like chicken, beaf, pork, and venison. I simply love eating chicken breast and steak. I can’t imagine my life without eating them”.

Jennifer Coleman

“I’m more inclined towards seafood as my mother is Japanese and seafood is more consumed than other forms of meat in Japan. I love salmon, oysters, prawns, tuna, and of course, shrimps. I believe everyone should consider seafood during pregnancy as they provide essential nutrients that your baby needs and you in return don’t gain weight. That’s why people in Japan or so thin even after eating so much because they rely more upon seafood than other types of red meat”.

Clare Barrett

“Chicken obviously, as it is tasty, healthy, and can be added in any dish without any worries. I love making chicken soups, chicken caesar salad, chicken tikka masala, chicken wings, and chicken lasagna. I don’t prefer any other types of meat as they are not easy to cook and as versatile as chicken. There’s a reason why I love KFC so much, the reason is of course my unconditional love for chicken”.

Jane Beverley

“Beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and ducks. Everyone in my family including me is a meat-lover. If there’s a day when we do not have meat at home then that day nobody becomes interested in eating at home. So, I always have to ensure that meat never gets out of stock in our home. I love making different meat dishes and due to the lockdown, I’ve learnt many new meat recipes too”.

Emma Finn

“Very hard to choose my favourite meat. Hmm, I do love eating lamb though. My favourite lamb dishes are lamb chops, roast lamb, andgrilled lamb kebabs. Although I would eat any dish that has lamb in it. During the cold season, I eat a dish made from lamb almost twice a week. I’m sure my unborn baby will get the taste of lamb once he grows old”.

Ensure to eat perfectly-cooked and seasoned meat while being pregnant. Including a small portion of meat daily is highly recommended for a healthy pregnancy. Apart from scrumptious meat dishes or delicacies, do not forget to add more seasonal fruits and vegetables, whole grains, healthy nuts (almonds, pistachios, cashew nuts, walnuts, apricots, etc.) and seeds (pumpkin seeds, melon seeds, flax seeds, and sunflower seeds) in your diet.
